This has come around quick, on Sunday i’ll be lining up with several thousand people at York Uni ready to run, jog, walk and wheel 26.2 miles! Plans have evolved slightly since my last update and everything is now in place to make sure I cross the finish line no matter what!
I will start the race with Nick and Barbara, running the first 3 miles to the Goodgym manned water station… running might not be the right word more short spurts of something resembling a run, broken up with hobbling, stopping and gasping and some walking. At the 3 mile point i’ll pick up a wheelchair then continue to the 4 mile relay point where Nick and Barbara will tag out with two others. The rest of the race will follow the official relay points with 2 people switching out at each to take turns pushing me in the chair with the exception of the second to last one which will continue to the end.
I hope to be able to jump in and out the chair and run as much as possible, realistically I can’t get very far before i’m struggling so will be handy to have it there ready to jump back into.
For the finish we will be joined by the Goodgym cheer squad at the bottom of the final hill, who will all run in with me making a huge crowd for an epic finish!
I have to thank Goodgym and Runforall for making all this possible, they’ve really gone above and beyond to make this happpen!
Given these plans there has been loads of media attention, you can find me on Look North ( Iplayer ), ITV ( Here ), Radio York ( also Iplayer ) and will be on the official marathon coverage on channel 4 ( i think Sat 20th )
Along side all this I have been spending some time with the guys at the York Pie Company, check out the video below, creating what they called a legacy pie. Essentially a pie i’ve come up with and named and from which a percentage will be donated to a good cause. What we’ve come up with is a gorgeous beef and “Magni” pie ( 8.9% imperial porter from Brew York ), with mushrooms and stilton cheese. I tried out the finished product yesterday and it’s bleeding gorgeous! Of course being the daddy of all pies there could only be one name for it… ” The Daddy ”
I’ll keep an eye out for when they are actually available to buy and post a link here, in the mean time make sure you check them out at https://yorkpies.com for some of the best pies in York.
Also the day after the marathon myself and Karina will be taking part in a firewalk out in Escrick to raise more funds for Macmillan! The total so far is just over 1.2K now which is amazing but we still want more! Check out the link to the side / below to donate or you can now text GGYM99 £5 to 70070 ( changing the value to whatever you would like to donate )
